July 11, 2008

Armenian Fashion : Arevik Simonyan RFW ss08Arevik Simonyan – the Armenian fashion designer representing Kivera Naynomis brand, had her debut runway show at Russian Fashion Week with spring-summer 2008 collection.

This first on RFW podium Armenian collection was presented on a stage covered with national handmade carpets and under the sound of folk drum music. In contrary to the national style interior, the collection had the sense of European sophistication and elegance.

In this very feminine collection Arevik presents the ideal image of her heroine – unpredictable, mysterious, powerful, but at the same time very delicate and feminine. Day and evening dresses in silky satins and draped fine jerseys of saturated colours, pale pearly floating skirts and pleated blouses, violets, pinks and olive shades on taffeta and jersey combinations. SECRET “D” OF TESTINO

July 10, 2008

SECRET DIARY OF MARIO TESTINOFamed photographer Mario Testino, who has photographed everyone from Gisele to Madonna and shoots for almost every issue of Vogue, chronicled his jet-set life from the end of May to late June for the Independent.

Testino, who edited and photographed the entire June German Vogue issue, flew off to Berlin for the issue’s launch early last month. The theme of the issue was “sex” and the Peruvian designer says he felt more than comfortable with that theme given that he draws a great deal of inspiration from Helmut Newton. He adds that both he and Helmut are Scorpios, and that people often say that Scorpios are very sexual. [Read more]

Wedding Collection 2008 by Lilit MargaryanWith the support of Armenian Fashion Council, fashion designer Lilit Margaryan has organized the photo session of her new Wedding Collection 2008.

Dresses in the new collection are both ingenuously romatic and glamourous, flirty and dramatic, saturated with handbeading, lace embelisshment, 3D florals and sophisticated draping. Full skirts with sheer lace corsetry have some retro sense, elegant body cons with extra long trains remind of a mermaid. From snow white to creamy, pearly and peachy colours the fabrics are enreached with decorative ornamentation. Bridals are layered and sculptures in imaginary shapes while evening gowns, in silver, black, turquoise, are curvilinear, accentuating eternal femininity peculiar Lilit’s designs.

Photo session took place at Golden Palace Hotel’s Presidential Suite, and we want to thank the management of the hotel for their support and patience.

LVMH-eBay=38.9 million euro

LVMH-eBay

PARIS — EBay’s legal troubles just got deeper — at least in France.

A landmark decision in a legal battle between luxury goods companies and eBay was handed down by a French court Monday, slapping the online auction site with the highest fine ever awarded against it in Europe.

After a two-year legal process, eBay Inc. and eBay International were ordered to pay LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton compensation totaling 38.9 million euros, or $61.3 million at current exchange, for allowing the sale of counterfeit goods and for the unlawful sale of authentic fragrances.

“It’s a fundamental decision for us, and will help us preserve our name, and the brands,” said Pierre Gode, LVMH chief Bernard Arnault’s adviser, after the verdict was announced.

Paris’ Tribunal de Commerce on Monday found eBay guilty of gross misconduct in failing to prevent the sale of fake Louis Vuitton leather goods and Christian Dior eyewear and handbags, and ordered it to pay those businesses 19.3 million euros, or $30.5 million, and 16.4 million euros, or $27.5 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Parfums Christian Dior, Kenzo Parfums, Guerlain and Parfums Givenchy were awarded 3.2 million euros, or $4.7 million, in a separate claim that argued that such fragrances can be sold only in the selective distribution doors chosen by the brands. EBay was ordered to stop selling the four brands or face a fine of 50,000 euros, or $79,000, a day.

EBay said it would appeal the decision and that it would continue to allow the sale of Christian Dior, Givenchy, Guerlain and Kenzo fragrances, despite the court’s order of “provisional execution,” meaning it should be carried out immediately.

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has received the prestigious French award, Legion of Honour, for his design achievements over the past 35 years from the French President Nicolas Sarkozy last week. The ceremony was held at the winter garden of the Elysee Palace in Paris, where British actress Helen Mirren, singer Tina Turner and Carla Fendi were there to support the couturier.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in the market for a makeover. Perhaps something à la Richard Gere in “American Gigolo,” he joked to Giorgio Armani, who designed costumes for the film, moments before declaring the Italian designer an officer of the Légion d’Honneur at the Elysée Palace in Paris Thursday (Italian actress Claudia Cardinale was made commander at the same ceremony).

In a speech packed with one-liners that had the crowd roaring with laughter, Sarkozy played up his honorees’ origins. “As you know, I’m rather close to Italians,” he said, alluding to his new wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who did not attend the event.

Carla Fendi, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Nathalie Rykiel, Lady Helen Taylor, Eugenia Silva and Tina Turner were among those who gathered in the sunlit Jardin d’Hiver for the ceremony. Turner accessorized her sparkling green jumpsuit with her own Légion d’Honneur medallion. “I’ve got my little shiny one,” she said with a laugh, patting the prize.

Dame Helen Mirren (ph) bowed before Armani as she offered her congratulations. “The first time I had a posh dress, it was Armani,” said the actress, who wore costumes by the designer in the 1990 film “The Comfort of Strangers.”…
